When you hear the phrase 'selling club', you usually think of clubs like Southampton, Valencia and Porto, but it is Liverpool who are top dogs in that regard - being the biggest selling club in Europe - with Luis Suarez, Raheem Sterling and Fernando Torres the big selling departures in recent transfer windows for the Reds, the Daily Mirror report.
All transfers from 2010 to 2016 from the top five league in Europe have been put into consideration and Liverpool have made €442m from player sales with Valencia and Juventus making up the top three.
Tottenham and Chelsea are the other two English clubs in the top ten, Spurs are in sixth with €368m sales and Chelsea are tenth with €358m in sales.
Southampton are 15th with €268m
worth of player sales, Dejan Lovren, Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana,
Nathaniel Clyne and Rickie Lambert all players that have left the Saints
to join Liverpool in recent history.
Every transfer fee received since 2010 has been tallied, whether it be the £1.5m picked up for Paul Konchesky, the £3m fee for Daniel Agger or the £65m Barcelona bought Luis Suarez for.
Every penny
counts, and has it not been for the sales of Konchesky, Suso and Daniel
Ayala, then the Reds would not have made it to the top of the tree.
Former
Premier League star-turned pundit Jimmy Bullard recently discussed
Liverpool and their transfer policy, indeed bringing up the fact
that they are a selling club.
